Outcomes Based Teaching and Assessment

This subject critically reviews outcomes based education (OBE) approaches to curriculum planning, teaching and assessment. Students critically assess issues relating to OBE curriculum development and its similarities with and differences from other recent approaches, including authentic learning and assessment, with a view to identifying key features of OBE and its potential for teaching and learning. Students plan programs using an outcomes based approach and develop appropriate teaching and assessment strategies and programs in curriculum areas relevant to their own work experience.

Learning Objectives:

  1. critically review key features of outcomes based approaches to curriculum and teaching;
  2. assess the potential and possible problems of outcomes based education;
  3. develop curriculum, teaching and assessment programs using an outcomes based approach.

Assessment by critical essay (30%); curriculum review (30%); workbased project (40%).
