Students with Reading Difficulties

Available to level 4 BEd (Professional Development) and BEd pre-service students.

The subject will explore the nature of reading and written expression and a range of strategies for addressing difficulties in literacy. The subject includes 25 hours of field work involving working in a school with a pupil who has difficulties with literacy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. critically examine nominated models of reading;
  2. critically examine nominated models of written expression
  3. critically examine a nominated range of strategies for teaching pupils who have difficulties in reading and written expression;
  4. write a field work report which shows clear understanding of, and the ability to put into practice, content of study materials.

Assessment by written field work report (70%); assessment of study materials (30%). In order to pass the subject it will be necessary to pass the field work.
