Ore Genesis

Prerequisites: Any two level 2 EA subjects

26 lectures, 36 hours practicals. Second semester.

Processes or ore formation, including the geochemistry of ore-forming fluids, wall-rock interactions and fluid migration; the styles, attributes and geological context of mineralised rock-systems.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to provide an introduction to methods in metallogenic studies including ore microscopy, fluid inclusion studies and stable isotope geochemistry;
  2. to give an understanding of the nature and origin of metalliferous ore deposits.

Assessment by a three-hour theory examination (60%); practical exercises and one 3,000 word assignment (40%).
