Accounting 2

Available only to Graduate Diploma of Accounting students.

The nature of accounting theory, accounting theory and policy, the theory and practice of accounting for the formation, operations and winding-up of companies and the disclosure of information in financial reports, the role of empirical research and future trends in accounting.

Learning Objectives:

  1. demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of accounting theory and policy;
  2. apply this knowledge and understanding to analyse contemporary accounting regulation and the likely impacts of new developments in this area;
  3. demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of alternative accounting models for profit and capital measurement in times of changing prices;
  4. analyse and discuss selected trends in accounting;
  5. demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical and practical issues associated with accounting for the formation of companies, tax effect accounting, accounting for liquidations, receivership, business combinations and reorganisations, the preparation of group accounts and the disclosure requirements for the preparation of company reports.

Assessment by on-course test 1 (15%); on-course test 2 (20%); essay (15%); final examination (50%).
