Applied Financial Management

26 lectures, 24 tutorials. First semester. Also offered at Holmes College in Sydney and Melbourne, first and second semester and January/February intensive block mode.

Major topics include financial analysis and planning; management of cash and accounts receivable; time value of money; risk, return and valuation; capital project appraisal; financing of working capital; capital structure decisions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. prepare a profit plan for a business organisation;
  2. formulate short- and long-term financing strategies for a business enterprise;
  3. evaluate proposed capital projects;
  4. perform basic security valuation;
  5. demonstrate an understanding of the principles of working capital management;
  6. assess the implications of leasing assets.

Assessment by assignments (20%); two tests (20%); examination (60%).
