Tropical Soils

Introduction to tropical soils; weathering and soil formation; physical, chemical and biological process in soils; land resource assessment; soil classification; land degradation and remediation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to introduce students to the nature of soils and soil processes;
  2. to discuss land management issues in tropical Australia;
  3. to understand the principles underlying methods used in management and remediation of soils;
  4. to develop practical skills in describing and classifying soils and in interpreting soil survey and land resource assessments.

Assessment by examination and/or field project, written assignment and seminar.
