Townsville

Prerequisites: Six biology subjects including AQ2001

19 lectures, 6 tutorials, 36 hours practicals. Second semester.

Staff: Dr T Anderson.

This subject discusses the factors which should be considered for the management of a system for culturing aquatic organisms. It addresses fundamental principles and concepts rather than describing how to grow a particular species. Therefore, as a result of studying this subject, students will be able to manage a system for culturing any aquatic species.

Learning Objectives:

  1. describe the requirements for and parameters to be considered in the management of an aquaculture system;
  2. describe the environmental effects of aquaculture operations;
  3. design and conduct appropriate management regimes to operate and maintain various aquaculture systems.

Assessment by a two-hour final examination (50%); tutorial and practical reports (50%).
