Animal Diversity, Form and Function

Prerequisites: ZL1001 or ZL1003
36 lectures, 30 hours practicals, 5 days field work. First semester.

Review of major animal phyla, focussing on their diversity and general form and function, including aspects of physiology, behaviour and ecology.
Learning Objectives:
- to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of the diversity of animals, their form and their functions;
- to appreciate the close connection between anatomy, physiology, behaviour and ecology in the animal phyla.
Assessment by one three-hour theory examinations (50%); one two-hour practical examination (20%); on-course assessment (30%).
