Prerequisites: WS3502
12 hours pre-placement planning workshops or the equivalent in mixed mode delivery, 15 weeks full-time field work, 18 hours integration workshops, 1.5 hours professional supervision per student per week and 6 hours field liaison per student, during and as part of field placement. Second semester.
Available to BSW students.
Staff: Field education team (Townsville campus); Mrs D Nilsson (Cairns campus).
Students will undertake a 15 week block placement with an accredited social work supervisor to prepare them for entry into professional social work. Preparation for placement takes place in first semester.
Learning Objectives:
- to continue to develop knowledge and skills in general practice;
- to assess needs and select and apply appropriate intervention strategies;
- to evaluate and record processes and outcomes;
- to be able to apply theoretical concepts and principles of practice;
- to understand policy formulation and how policy and practice influence each other;
- to recognise and evaluate social work roles and functions and how they relate to agencies services and objectives;
- to be able to identify major social, political and economic factors impinging on agencies and shaping policy and practice.
Assessment by learning plan; mid-placement assessment; end of placement assessment; statement of learning (1,500 words); daily practice journal; attendance at all integration workshops, pre-placement planning workshops and completion of pre-placement tasks. All pieces of assessment are regarded as of equal importance. All pieces of assessment must be completed at a satisfactory standard in order to gain an overall satisfactory grading.
