Available to all students subject to portfolio presentation. This is a core subject for Bachelor of Visual Arts and Bachelor of Education students majoring in Art.

Staff: Mr J Brown.

This subject will introduce students to the fundamentals of drawing. Students will explore tone, proportion and mark-making in a range of mediums.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop skills in recognising and rendering differences of tone;
  2. to develop skills in proportional and sight-size measuring;
  3. to understand and apply principles of linear and aerial perspective;
  4. to understand and explore conventions in composition;
  5. to understand and explore objective and subjective viewpoints;
  6. to explore mark-making in a range of mediums.

Assessment will be based on the average grade of eight prescribed folios of drawings (12 [half]% each, total 100%). The folios will be of equal mark-weighting and will be assessed at progressive stages throughout the year. Students with an attendance of less than 80% of classes will be ineligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from the lecturer in charge.
