This subject examines a variety of statistical procedures common to the biomedical sciences. Topics include exploratory and descriptive data analysis using a PC based software package, probability, sampling distributions, hypothesis testing and linear models.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understand the role and importance of empirical methods in biomedical science;
  2. understand basic statistical concepts such as probability, sampling distributions and inference;
  3. be able to apply basic exploratory and inferential statistical methods to biomedical data using statistical software.

Assessment by tutorials (10%) and seven written assignments (90%).
