Sun motion and shadow angle projection, effects of shading on surface temperatures, effects of surface temperatures on adjacent air temperatures, glare control in reflective environments, influence of building shape and spacing on pedestrian level breeze penetration, estimation of outdoor thermal comfort.

Learning Objectives:

  1. ability to predict complex sun shading in urban settings;
  2. ability to assess probable outdoor thermal comfort in urban spaces based on solar radiation, shading, surface materials and natural breeze penetration at pedestrian level.

Assessment by essay (60%); examination (40%).
