Typical energy use in buildings in tropical environments, options for improving energy efficiency, alternative energy sources including renewable energy sources and their availability, cooling systems and cooling load management.

Learning Objectives:

  1. knowledge of the relative energy demands in tropical buildings and available energy sources;
  2. ability to design buildings to minimise cooling loads and utilise renewable energy sources.

Assessment by essay (60%); examination (40%).
