39 contact hours. First and second semester. On-campus and flexible delivery.

Local climate analysis, thermal comfort appraisal, thermal performance of building envelopes and assessment criteria, thermal design and corrective strategies, identification of cooling periods and cooling options.

Learning Objectives:

  1. ability to identify critical features of local climates, estimate thermal comfort zones, design appropriate thermal performance for building envelopes and appraise defective thermal performance in buildings and recommend corrective measures;
  2. ability to identify critical periods when indoor cooling is appropriate and energy efficient methods of providing cooling.

Assessment by essay (60%); examination (40%).
