Local climate analysis, thermal comfort and heat stress appraisal, thermal characteristics of building envelopes, thermal performance criteria for buildings, corrective strategies for poor performing buildings, identification of indoor cooling and ventilation requirements, methods for providing indoor cooling.

Learning Objectives:

  1. ability to identify critical features of local climates, estimate thermal comfort zones and heat stress index, identify appropriate building characteristics for particular climates and identify corrective measures to improve thermal performance of poorly performing buildings;
  2. ability to identify ventilation requirements, periods when indoor cooling is required and methods for providing indoor cooling and ventilation.

Assessment by seminar presentation (60%); a three-hour examination (40%).
