Understanding of the Korean Travel Market

This subject is designed to meet the training needs and interests of persons working in different capacities in the tourism and hospitality industry by helping them develop basic skills in a necessarily limited but diverse range of specific situations involving Korean tourists. This subject will suit those already employed in the tourism and hospitality industry who are looking to obtain specific knowledge in the Korean tourism market and those who wish to prepare themselves for entering the Korean tourism market.

Major topics include: megatrends; the Korean outbound tourism market; importance of Korean tourism to Australia; profile of the Korean tourist; expectations and preferences of the Korean tourist; benefiting from understanding Korean tourist satisfaction; responses of the Australian tourist industry; meeting the needs of the Korean tourist; Korea’s physical and economic environment; work and lifestyle; the social environment; future developments.

Learning Objectives:

  1. examine tourism, the hospitality and tourism industry in Korea and Australia and the importance of the Korean tourist market to Australia;
  2. provide students with a greater appreciation of the range of Korean tourists they are likely to meet and to enable students to more readily understand some of the reasons for visitors’ preferences, expectations and satisfaction with Australian trips;
  3. provide students with a wider knowledge of the industry of which they are a part and develop their awareness of how, in meeting the needs of Korean inbound tourists generally, the different segments of the industry depend on each other.
