Neurology of Neonates

42 hours flexible delivery. First and second semester.

Available to students enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma of Neonatology.

Review of normal and abnormal neurological development, physiology and biochemistry and the pathology of common neurological conditions and their modern management in neonatal settings.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop an understanding of the embryology of the neurological system and associated abnormalities;
  2. to acquire the underpinning knowledge and skills to investigate and manage the common problems of neonatal neurological function;
  3. to acquire the theoretical skills to manage these problems in the context of a modern Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Assessment by assignments (70%); final examination (30%).
