Health Policy and Planning

Available to all students enrolled in level 3 of the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy course.

This subject introduces some of the issues surrounding the development, implementation and evaluation of health policy and planning processes. There are a number of ways of considering the health policy and planning processes. These include looking at possible models of the health policy and planning process and considering the power relationships in the development of health policy and undertaking health planning. Factors influencing health policy formulation and planning will also be examined.
Learning Objectives:
- define what health policy and planning is;
- demonstrate an understanding of the health policy and planning process;
- identify the factors that influence different aspects of the health policy and planning process;
- identify some of the health policies and planning processes operating in the students own health care setting;
- critically analyse health policies and planning processes.
Assessment by tutorial assessment (20%); assignment (30%); final examination (50%).
