Common causes of injury in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations, epidemiology of injury in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations, the risk factors associated with injury, the role of substance misuse, the role of community empowerment in addressing the levels of morbidity and mortality due to injuries in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, primary prevention strategies for common injuries.
Learning Objectives:
- sound knowledge of the common causes of injury in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations;
- sound knowledge of the epidemiology of the common causes of injury in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations;
- ability to identify the risk factors associated with the common causes of injury in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations;
- sound knowledge of the current strategies for the prevention of injury in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Assessment by participation (10%); assignments (20%); examinations (70%).
