Cardiovascular disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations: pathophysiology; the risk factors associated; primary prevention; role of nutrition in prevention; programs; current treatments; epidemiology.

Learning Objectives:

  1. knowledge of the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease;
  2. understand the importance of the disease in contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
  3. knowledge of the epidemiology of the disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations;
  4. ability to identify the risk factors associated with the disease;
  5. be aware of current trends in the treatment of the disease;
  6. sound knowledge of the current strategies for the prevention of the disease.

Assessment by participation (10%); assignments (20%); examinations (70%).
