Theatre Studio 2A

Prerequisites: TH1926

120 hours seminars/practicals. First semester.

Available to level 2 BT students only.

Students will undertake either Acting or Production modules.

Acting

Students select appropriate modules from both movement and vocal skills.

Vocal skills — jaw/tongue/soft palate release; opening and release of ribs, back and diaphragm.

Movement skills — shoulder, neck, spine release; body centering philosophies and practice.

Production

Stage management skills; role of the stage manager; principles and organisation of the prompt copy. Company organisation; planning for production; stagecraft; professional work practices and company dynamics in production and performance.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to enable students to develop, employ and obtain mastery of core skills in the discipline.

Assessment by:

Acting

Movement: creative diary (1,500 words) (20%); performance (30%); Voice: voice journal (5%); Shakespearian duologue (15%); thematic presentation (10%); monologue with accent (10%); seminar (10%).

Production

Production report analysing processes explored (50%); continuous assessment of practical skills (50%).
