Contact hours will vary according to the modules chosen up to a maximum of 126 hours seminars/practicals. First semester.

Available to level 1 BT students only.

Students enrolling in this subject will undertake either Acting or Production modules.

Acting

Vocal modules — the physiology of voice relaxation, breath in relation to the body.

Movement modules — body alignment, physical control and precision in action.

Production

Technical production students choose from modules covering such areas as: assistant stage management, lighting for theatre, sound for theatre, props and set construction, wardrobe management, front of house and all design elements. Students actively engage as part of specific teams to meet the technical support needs of public performance.

Learning Objectives:

Acting

  1. to introduce students to acting skills in the discipline and their application in practice.

Production

  1. to enable students to identify, employ and obtain mastery of fundamental key competencies necessary for application to professional theatre.

Assessment by:

Acting

Movement: creative diary (1,500 words) (20%); performance (30%); Voice: voice journal (10%); written report (15%); contemporary verse presentation (25%).

Production

Two production reports (25% each) (50%); continuous assessment of practical skills (50%).
