Sociology honours comprises SY4005:12 (Sociology Honours Thesis), SY4006:04 (Directed Readings in Sociology), SY4007:04 (Research Design in Sociology) and SY4008:04 (Contemporary Sociological Analysis)
Sociology honours is available on a full-time or part-time basis to students who have gained grades of credit or higher in at least 12 units of level 3 Sociology and who satisfy the other requirements for entry to the Bachelor of Social Science with Honours.

Sociology honours provides an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of selected areas of Sociology and to carry out a supervised sociological research project. In addition to a research project examined by thesis, students take two seminar courses and a course of directed reading. Sociology honours develops students skills in independent research, report writing and spoken presentation. Sociology honours provides a suitable exit qualification for capable students with an interest in the discipline. It also serves as a foundation for entry to postgraduate research programs in Sociology.
Learning Objectives:
- enable students to reach a professional standard of competence in a selected area of Sociology;
- enhance students understandings of the principles and practice of sociological research and analysis;
- develop high-level research, writing and presentation skills.
Assessed as SY4005 (50%); SY4006 (16.7%); SY4007 (16.7%); SY4008 (16.7%).
