Design and Analysis for Experimental Psychology

This subject introduces and examines the design and implementation of experimental research in psychology. The general orientation is that the study of behaviour and psychological processes can be profitably conducted by means of scientific inquiry. Issues relating to the design and analysis of experiments in psychology will be covered, with an emphasis on the interrelatedness of design and analysis decisions for the research process.
Learning Objectives:
- gain an understanding of experimental research design and the costs and benefits of such a research approach;
- develop skills in choosing the most appropriate design, sampling procedure and data analytic technique for addressing particular types of research questions;
- learn how to present research results in an understandable and acceptable manner.
Assessment by research critique (10%); research report (35%); data presentation exercise (15%); final examination (40%).
