26 tutorials, 52 hours practicals. First semester.
Available to Bachelor of Photography students.
By means of a written contract negotiated with the subject coordinator, students enrolling in this subject will produce a portfolio of work to near professional standard in an area of photography of their choice. A program of work may be completed in any of the following broad categories: portraiture; photojournalism; commercial photography; fine art photography.
Learning Objectives:
- gain a greater understanding of one area of professional photography;
- apply previously acquired knowledge of photographic technique to achieve near-professional results;
- acquire a portfolio of work that will assist in gaining employment in the photographic industry;
- explore experimental alternatives wherever possible in the quest for originality and creative excellence;
- identify different creative processes, strategies and outcomes leading to the production of a portfolio of work representing the student’s personal artistic direction.
Assessment by folio of photographs as per individual approved contract (80%); journal detailing folio conception and progress (20%). Late submission of assessment items will attract penalties unless an extension has been granted in writing by the lecturer and work submitted by students with an attendance rate of less than 80% may not be eligible for assessment without prior written approval from the lecturer.
