Australia and World Politics I

First and second semester. Flexible delivery.

A study of Australia’s global position and role. Some attention will be paid to the evolution of Australia’s foreign, defence and trade policies and the assumptions about Australia and the world which have underpinned them.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to provide students with knowledge of the literature on Australia’s international relations;
  2. to familiarise students with changing conceptions of Australia’s national interests and the strategies employed in pursuing them;
  3. to develop skills in research and writing on Australia’s international relations;
  4. to have students appreciate the complexity of Australia’s international relations.

Assessment by module assignments (60%); three-hour examination (40%).
