This subject examines the process of public policy in Australia, focussing on the myriad factors affecting debate, decisions and implementation. A range of specific policy areas is studied.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to understand the policy-making process and particular areas of Australian public policy;
  2. to enhance students’ knowledge of Australian politics;
  3. to evaluate critically relevant academic and government literature;
  4. to use research and analytical skills pertinent to public policy;
  5. to develop appropriate writing and other communication skills.

Assessment by seminar presentation and paper (20%); essay (30%); attendance and participation (10%); examination (40%).
