This subject will provide a critical study of the practical working of the Australian political system at federal, state and local levels, with particular attention to the role of parties, voting methods and voter behaviour, the role of the media and comparisons with other federal systems.
Learning Objectives:
- to develop research skills;
- to develop a logical and structured argument based on a variety of relevant sources;
- to refine writing skills;
- to master accepted scholarly systems of acknowledging sources;
- to develop a close and critical interest in Australian politics.
Assessment by major essay (25%); tutorial essay (15%); tutorial attendance and participation (10%); examination (50%).
