A critical survey of Australian political institutions and their workings at federal, state and local levels. Particular attention is paid to parliament, the executive and the bureaucracy.
Learning Objectives:
- to develop a closer interest in current events;
- to evaluate these events critically;
- to apply textbook analysis to contemporary issues;
- to develop research skills;
- to develop a structured argument based on informed sources;
- to source information using appropriate methods.
Assessment by essay (25%); tutorial (15%); tutorial participation (10%); examination (50%).
