Physics of our World 2: Environmental Physics

Prerequisites: MA1000 or PH1010

26 lectures, 13 tutorials, 15 hours practicals. First semester.

Atmospheric and marine environments, energy and matter transfer, interaction of living things with their environment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to learn about the physical properties of the environment;
  2. to understand how physics plays a role in assessing important environmental issues;
  3. to understand the significance of the principles of energy and matter conservation;
  4. to understand how the various forms of energy may be harnessed for useful purposes;
  5. to learn how to apply basic physical principles to study living things.

Assessment by one three hour end-of-semester examination; assignments; practical work.
