Mathematics for Primary and Early Childhood Teachers

26 lectures, 13 hours workshops. Second semester and RATEP mode only.
Available to students who have not completed successfully Year 12 Mathematics.

Students investigate mathematical topics which form relevant background for primary education. These include mathematical systems, the real number system, elementary number theory, chance and data, informal geometry, measurement, pre-algebra and the use of technology in the classroom.
Learning Objectives:
- construct a sound conceptual and procedural knowledge of the mathematics currently taught in primary schools;
- develop confidence in the students ability to apply that knowledge in a primary school classroom.
Assessment by folio of activities (40%); one three-hour examination (60%).
