Pharmacy Practice 1

Townsville

26 lectures, 24 tutorials, 4 hours practicals, 3 hours workshops. First semester.

Available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy.

This subject introduces students to the practice of pharmacy: its history, role in society, professional ethics and the legal and administrative framework within which it functions. Introduction to written communication, data management and statistical analysis will be provided.

Learning Objectives:

  1. the concept of professionalism and of professional pharmacy ethics;
  2. the structure and function of pharmacy within Australia;
  3. legal, ethical and administrative environmental factors which regulate pharmacy practice;
  4. fundamental professional and administrative skills required in pharmacy practice.

Assessment by written end-of-semester examination (75%); assignments (25%). Satisfactory performance in all aspects of the subject is required to pass. All assignments must be completed and attendance at tutorial and practical classes is mandatory.
