Management of Major Clinical Problems in the Care of the Aged

Flexible delivery. Second semester.

Applicants are required to be registered nurses; to hold a degree in nursing or a related discipline; or to have gained entry by exception at the discretion of the Head of School.

This subject will introduce the student to the principles of nursing management of major physiological and emotional disruptions to health status associated with ageing. Critical exemplars in case study and care planning format will be used to illustrate the medical and nursing management of a range of conditions common in ageing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. identify contemporary medical and nursing management of a range of common physiological and emotional health problems in the aged;
  2. plan and evaluate the nursing care of aged clients;
  3. identify and discuss issues in the management of clinical problems in the aged;
  4. operationalise a care plan in a clinical setting with a selected aged client.
