Clinical Teaching in Nursing

Applicants are required to be registered nurses; to hold a degree in nursing or a related discipline; or to have gained entry by exception at the discretion of the Head of School.

This subject will focus on specific strategies related to clinical teaching in nursing. The topics include the components of the clinical learning cycle, how learning is facilitated through clinical practice and how reflective practice can be incorporated in clinical learning.
Learning Objectives:
- describe the components of the clinical learning cycle and how learning takes place at each point in the cycle;
- discuss what influences the components of the clinical learning cycle;
- describe the role of the clinical teacher throughout the clinical learning cycle;
- outline specific strategies that can be utilised by the clinical teacher to facilitate learning;
- discuss evaluation and feedback related to clinical teaching and learning;
- describe the impact of reflective practice on the clinical experience of students.
