Rural and Remote Health Practice 1

Townsville

Flexible delivery. First and second semester.

Available to postgraduate students undertaking a rural and remote health course.

This subject focuses on students’ exploration of their practice roles consistent with their discipline and areas of interest. Techniques for reflective practice and work-place role assessment will be utilised and students will apply a critical perspective to this work. Students will determine their professional requirements for intervention for either individual, team or community levels and begin to determine strategies to meet these requirements.

Learning Objectives:

  1. distinguish the features of professional practice which arise from the rural and remote setting;
  2. critical assessment of the students’ professional role using a primary health care framework;
  3. identification of strategies for achieving professional development appropriate to the practice setting;
  4. implementation of practice consistent with identified health needs of individuals and communities.

On-course assessment (100%).
