Managing Music

Prerequisites: 6 units of level 2 subjects from Music schedule

26 lectures, 13 tutorials/seminars. Second semester.

Available only to BMus students.

This subject will cover areas specifically relatd ot the music industry, including copyright and publication, contracts and the legal environment, fees and charges, small busines management, basic financial management, grant submissions, using the inernet, marketing, publicity and promotion.

Learning Objectives:

  1. gain an understanding of various aspects of music as a business;
  2. develop a variety of entrepreneurial, management, administration and marketing skills;
  3. enhance potential for successful careers in music and arts management and administration.

Assessment by end-of-semester examination (40%); essay (40%); seminar presentation (20%).
