Normal anatomy and histology of aquatic invertebrates and vertebrates from a disease perspective; responses to disease; description of important infectious diseases of aquatic animals and control; case studies with an aquaculture bias; establishment of piscine cell lines.
Learning Objectives:
- introduce students to the major aquatic diseases in Australia;
- demonstrate the role quarantine plays in controlling aquatic disease;
- teach the students the diagnostic approach to disease control;
- introduce the students to the various methods of pathogen isolation and culture used when investigating fish kills;
- introduce students to research.
Assessment by examination (65%); project/mini thesis (35%).
