Engineering Dynamics I
Townsville
Prerequisites: ME1521
39 lectures, 13 tutorials, 26 hours practicals. Second semester.
Available to science and engineering students.
Kinematic and kinetic analysis of planar mechanisms; velocity and acceleration analysis, dAlemberts Principle, centre of percussion. Introduction to three dimensional dynamics of rigid bodies, including gyroscopic motion. Energy and momentum methods. Vibration of single degree of freedom systems; undamped and damped free vibration, forced vibration, vibration isolation and base excitation.
Learning Objectives:
- analyse the velocities, accelerations and forces in planar mechanisms;
- analyse simple spatial mechanisms;
- analyse the vibration characteristics of single degree of freedom systems.
Assessment by examination (50%-70%); on-course assessment (30%-50%).
