Principles of Criminal Law

Available to all level 1 students although a quota applies and preference will be given to LLB students.

Principles of criminal responsibility; aims of the criminal law; selected offences including homicide; non-fatal offences; property offences; drug offences; general and specific defences.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to introduce the tools of analysis used in criminal law;
  2. to examine the basis of criminal responsibility;
  3. to attain familiarity with certain offences and defences.

Assessment by final examination (60%); assignment (30%); tutorial participation (10%) (subject to variation).
