Sports Journalism

Sports reporting is among the most demanding fields of journalism today. Its professionals need to be proficient in writing columns, as well as in legal, business, investigative, feature, historical, soft and hard news writing. Additionally, sports reporters frequently work simultaneously in two and occasionally all three media and may also publish books. This subject presumes students have a broad general knowledge and interest in sport. They will learn to adapt research and news writing skills developed in other subjects in order to produce accurate, entertaining and original sport’s copy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. demonstrate an ability to preview, report and review sporting fixtures;
  2. conduct in-depth research on sporting issues, events or personalities;
  3. demonstrate a knowledge of the sports reporting requirements of the threee media.

Assessment by regular news stories assignments.
