Shorthand

Townsville

Inadmissable Subject Combination: CA3105

78 practicals. Second semester.

Available to Advanced Diploma of Communications, Bachelor of Journalism and other students.

Students will be required to learn shorthand through a series of practical exercises and tests conducted off-campus (through TAFE or Townsville Bulletin’s shorthand tutor) and accredited by the University.

Learning Objectives:

  1. provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the shorthand skills necessary to work as reporters in print journalism;
  2. provide students with the shorthand skills necessary to work as court reporters (TV and radio reporters also require shorthand skills when court reporting).

Assessment by progressive examinations (90%); attendance and participation (10%).

Students will be tested by TAFE or the Townsville Bulletin tutors on the number of words per minute achieved in dictation exams. Results achieved will be applied to students academic histories at the University.
