Feature Writing

52 lectures/workshops. First semester.
Available to Advanced Diploma of Communications students.
Students will study the techniques involved in preparing news features and human interest stories. They will learn how to apply these techniques and principles in a culturally appropriate manner.
Learning Objectives:
- provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with skills in feature writing;
- enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to develop their story writing techniques;
- enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to write features that will be suitable for publication in the mainstream media.
Assessment by assignments and practicals (50%); 1,500-word feature story (40%); attendance and participation (10%).
