This subject analyses the different philosophies underpinning the three different forms of broadcasting in Australia; National, Commercial and Public/ Community, including BRACS. The subject specifically considers the practical issues confronting the management and operation of a community broadcaster, including basic office management, job descriptions and staff responsibilities, basic accounting and legal concepts and relations with key media organisations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. an understanding of the key organisations and structures which control or affect broadcasters;
  2. an understanding of the basic office management procedures essential to the efficient management of a community broadcasting unit;
  3. an understanding of the technical relationships and the contact process necessary to maintain the technical installation of a BRAC unit;
  4. basic human resource management.

Assessment by on-campus written/video assignment (40%); on-campus worksheets and practicals (20%); off-campus assignment (20%); attendance and participation (20%).
