Students are introduced to simple forms of radio programs, how they are researched and put together. The production of basic radio magazine and music programs is taught. Field recording, interviewing, editing and writing for radio are introduced. Where to find information for program material in an Indigenous community is also covered.
Learning Objectives:
- how to do a variety of interviews including, vox pops, oral history and informational;
- how to edit interviews;
- how to write for radio, including community announcements and introductions to interviews;
- the operation of basic recording equipment to record voice;
- how to operate the radio panel;
- the presentation of a radio program;
- undertake music programming;
- how to identify an audience and cater to it in programming.
Assessment by a variety of interviews edited and unedited (40%); a magazine program including community announcements (30%); attendance and participation (20%); an off-campus assignment (10%).
