Creation of a Nation: Australian History 1

This subject focuses on a number of important debates in Australian History. These centre on historiography, the peopling of Australia, the growth of national identity and elements of Australian political history.
Learning Objectives:
- to be acquainted with the relevant debates occurring within the discipline;
- to be able to evaluate these critically;
- to expand the breadth of research skills to include electronic and primary source material;
- to marshall material in a coherent and logical manner;
- to use footnotes to expand information as well as to document sources.
Assessment by two 2,000 word essays (30%); 1,500 word tutorial essay and presentation (15%); general contribution to tutorial discussions (5%); examination (50%).
