Creation of a Nation: Australian History 1

This subject focuses on a number of important debates in Australian History. These centre on historiography, the peopling of Australia, the growth of national identity and elements of Australian political history.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to be acquainted with the relevant debates occurring within the discipline;
  2. to be able to evaluate these critically;
  3. to expand the breadth of research skills to include electronic and primary source material;
  4. to marshall material in a coherent and logical manner;
  5. to use footnotes to expand information as well as to document sources.

Assessment by two 2,000 word essays (30%); 1,500 word tutorial essay and presentation (15%); general contribution to tutorial discussions (5%); examination (50%).
