The fundamentals of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are explored in three sections reflecting the origins and functionality of GIS.

Learning Objectives:

  1. have an overview of Geographic Information Processing;
  2. have a working knowledge of the basic principles of cartography;
  3. be able to use a GIS to produce a map and begin to create spatial databases;
  4. be able to apply the above to a wide range of disciplines.

Assessment by on-course work (60%); final examination (40%).
