Introduction to Population Issues

This subject introduces a range of basic demographic concepts, theories and practical applications. The focus is on fertility, mortality and migration trends and their application to population growth.
Learning Objectives:
- to provide an overview of current demographic issues;
- to develop analytical, oral and written skills;
- to provide a conceptual framework to examine population related issues;
- to analyse and synthesise information relating to population issues.
Assessment by examination (50%); tutorials and practicals (20%); seminar (20%); essay (10%).
