Modern Communication 2

Prerequisites: EL1012

13 lectures, 20 hours practicals. First semester.

The subject is designed as part of the Public Relations strand of the Bachelor of Journalism degree but is open to all interested students. It will permit students to develop their knowledge in communication studies. The subject content includes case studies in the processes of communication; the rise of structuralist theories of communication; and a philosophical approach to science, language and linguistics.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to acquire deeper and more extensive knowledge of the principles and theory underlying practical work in fields of communication such as journalism and public relations;
  2. to develop expertise and high awareness in reading and analysis of texts in various forms.

Assessment by periodic assignments and exercises for assessment deriving from practicals (60%); one three-hour examination (40%).
