Operations and Quality Management

26 lectures, 13 tutorials. Two week vacation block mode. First or second semester.

Available to students enrolled in the Master of Engineering Management course and to other students at the discretion of the Head of School of Engineering.

Plant location and facilities layout; materials requirements planning and inventory management; production scheduling; emerging production technologies; quality management and statistical quality control; applications.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to learn the tools and techniques of operations and production planning and management;
  2. to appreciate the importance of factors crucial to decisions on location and layout;
  3. to become familiar with the emerging computer-based technologies in production;
  4. to understand the principles of correctly managing production systems;
  5. success factors in the design and management of quality systems.

On-course assessment including seminar (20%); assignments (40%); project reports (40%).
