Advanced Resource Management

Townsville

26 lectures, 13 tutorials. Two week vacation block mode. First or second semester.

Available to students enrolled in the Master of Engineering Management course and to other students at the discretion of the Head of School of Engineering.

The subject area addresses the issue involved in managing organisational resources – people, technology, assets – e.g. change-management, technology integration and productivity improvement viewpoints.

Technology forecasting techniques; contingency planning and sensitivity analysis; productivity of human and capital resources; mineralogical/geological prospecting, mining operations; mining life calculations, grade-tonnes models and geo-statistics; mineral law and land tenure, acquisition and financing; valuation of mines and prospects; asset management.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to encourage an informed understanding of the resources used in the industry;
  2. to grasp the special issues relating to mineral law, land tenure, acquisition etc;
  3. to learn contemporary techniques in asset management and productivity improvement.

On-course assessment including seminar (15%); assignments (50%); project report (35%).
